Does Zillow have an API? What's open in 2026

Zillow's listing and property APIs are by request or invite only. What the main ones cover, and how to get public listings as JSON for 1 credit a call.

Short answer

  • Zillow has APIs, but not an open one. Zestimates are 'for commercial use cases by businesses' by request; Public Records and MLS listings are invite only.
  • Zillow publishes free aggregate research data as CSV downloads, with looser terms for research and academic use.
  • For public listing data, our Zillow API returns search results, property details and price history as JSON: 1 credit per call, 41 listings per search page.
On this page

Zillow has APIs, but the ones with listing or property data don't give you a key when you sign up. Zillow Group's developer site lists close to 20 APIs. Of the three we read with listing or property data, the Zestimates API is "for commercial use cases by businesses" behind an access request, and Public Records and MLS Listings are "currently invite only." We read each page on 2026-10-12.

What Zillow Group offers

API What it returns Who gets access
Zestimates API Property, rental and foreclosure Zestimates for about 100 million US homes Businesses, by request ("click the help button")
Public Records API Parcel, assessment and transaction data from US counties, about 15 years back Invite only
MLS Listings (Bridge Listing Output) MLS listing data in the RESO format Invite only, at each MLS partner's discretion
Research data Aggregate real estate metrics by region, down to neighborhoods Free CSV downloads for research and academic projects

The Zestimates page is direct about the audience: "This resource is really for commercial use cases by businesses. For research and academic projects, we provide the following metrics that have a looser Terms of Use." The APIs authenticate with a password and access token and run on Zillow's Bridge platform (bridgedataoutput.com).

The site also lists Agents, Mortgage, Rentals and Transactions categories; we did not read those pages.

Official research data, and a route to listings

For aggregate trends, start with Zillow's research data. It is free and official, and Zillow offers the metrics at several regional levels, down to neighborhoods.

For listing-level data (the homes for sale in a ZIP code, with price, beds, baths and the listing broker), none of the APIs we read is self-serve. We make ToolzerHub, and that is the gap our Zillow API fills: it reads public Zillow listing pages and returns them as JSON with one API key.

bash
curl "https://api.toolzerhub.com/v1/zillow/search?region=austin-tx" \
  -H "x-api-key: $TOOLZERHUB_API_KEY"

Live request, run 2026-10-12. The call returned 41 listings; one is shown, trimmed.

    }]
  }
}
  • region takes the slug from a Zillow URL (austin-tx), a state (ca) or a ZIP code (78704).
  • zpid is Zillow's property ID. Pass it to /v1/zillow/property for the full record, or /v1/zillow/history for price history, tax history and schools.
  • total_results says 5,642 homes match, but total_pages is 20. That is Zillow's own cap: 20 pages of 41, so 820 homes per search. Search ZIP by ZIP to get all of them; our CSV export guide does that.

What it costs

Each call costs 1 credit: one search page of 41 listings, or one property. Exporting all 338 for-sale homes in ZIP 78704 took 9 calls. At our plan and pack rates ($0.99 to $1.90 per 1,000 credits) that is 1 to 2 cents. The free tier gives 100 credits a month.

What it doesn't do

  • /v1/zillow/property returns the current zestimate and rent_zestimate for one home. There is no Zestimate history and no bulk Zestimate feed; if your product depends on Zestimates, apply for Zillow's API.
  • Search covers for-sale and sold homes. Rentals come from the /v1/zillow/sitemap endpoint with family=for_rent.
  • Sold searches return a sample (results_are_capped), not every sale.
  • Only what is on public listing pages: no MLS-only data and nothing behind a login.
