How to Use the AFCAT Age Eligibility Calculator
- Enter your date of birth.
- Set the reference (cutoff) date to the exact date printed in your AFCAT notification — see the caveat below.

AFCAT's Branch-wise Age Bands
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) recruits for two broad streams, each with its own age window:
| Branch | Age band |
|---|---|
| Flying Branch | 20–24 years |
| Flying Branch, with a valid DGCA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) | 20–26 years |
| Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) | 20–26 years |
As with every exam in this family, the lower bound is inclusive and the upper bound is exclusive: a candidate who turns exactly 24 (Flying, non-CPL) or 26 (CPL/Ground Duty) on the reference date has already crossed that branch's limit.
Why the Reference Date Needs Your Attention
AFCAT's age is reckoned against the training course's commencement date, not the written exam date — and that course start typically falls roughly a year after the exam itself. The Indian Air Force runs two AFCAT cycles a year (AFCAT 1 and AFCAT 2), each with a different reference date. This calculator's default cutoff date is a placeholder for the AFCAT 2 2026 cycle; you must open the specific AFCAT notification for the cycle you're targeting and confirm the exact "born between" window for your branch before trusting a result here.
No Category Age Relaxation
Like NDA and CDS, AFCAT grants no age relaxation for any reserved category — every candidate, regardless of category, must fall in the same branch-specific age window. Reservation at AFCAT shows up in seat allocation, not in the age criterion itself.
What Disqualifies You
- A date of birth outside the exact window printed for your branch in your specific notification — even by a single day.
- Not meeting the branch-specific educational qualification (a minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level, plus a qualifying degree, with the exact percentage and degree-duration requirement differing between Flying and Ground Duty branches).
- Not holding a currently-valid Commercial Pilot Licence when claiming the CPL-holder age extension for the Flying Branch — a licence that has lapsed does not qualify.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to change the cutoff date myself? Because AFCAT's reference date is training-course-specific and shifts between AFCAT 1 and AFCAT 2 every cycle — there's no single fixed date this tool can safely hard-code across cycles.
Do these age bands change often? The bands themselves (20–24 for Flying, up to 26 for CPL holders or Ground Duty) have been stable for several cycles, but always confirm against the live notification since the Indian Air Force could revise them.
Is the CPL age extension automatic? No — you must hold a valid, current DGCA Commercial Pilot Licence at the time of application to claim the extended 26-year upper limit for the Flying Branch; without it, the standard 20–24 band applies.
Is this the official Indian Air Force eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate. Always cross-check your exact date of birth against the "born between" clause for your branch in your specific AFCAT notification.
Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
