NDA Age Eligibility Calculator (16.5-19.5 Years)

Check whether your date of birth falls in the NDA & NA exam's 16.5-19.5 year window. No category relaxation applies — set the exact cutoff date from your notification.

NDA I (course starting around July) and NDA II (course starting around January of the following year) use DIFFERENT reference dates. The date above is a placeholder for the NDA II 2026 cycle — open your specific NDA notification PDF and confirm the exact 'born not earlier than / not later than' dates before relying on this result.

Age limits verified 2026-08 against UPSC NDA & NA (II) 2026 Notification (Notice No. 10/2026-NDA-II, released 20 May 2026), upsc.gov.in — always confirm against the current-year official notification before applying. The 16.5-19.5 year band itself has been the stable NDA standard for years; only the exact reference ('as on') date shifts between NDA I and NDA II each cycle. Unlike civil/SSC exams, NDA grants NO age relaxation for any reserved category.

How to Use the NDA Age Eligibility Calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Set the reference (cutoff) date to the exact date printed in your NDA notification — see the caveat below, because this is the field most likely to trip people up for NDA.
  3. Click Check eligibility to see your exact age and whether it falls inside the 16.5 to 19.5 year window.

Everything runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.

The NDA Age Band, Explained

NDA & NA (National Defence Academy and Naval Academy) eligibility uses a 16.5 to 19.5 year age window — one of the narrowest of any Indian competitive exam. The lower bound is inclusive (turning exactly 16 years 6 months on the reference date is eligible) and the upper bound is exclusive (turning exactly 19 years 6 months on the reference date is just over the limit). This 3-year window has been the stable NDA standard for many years and is very unlikely to change year to year.

Why the Reference Date Needs Your Attention

Unlike most exams on this site, NDA does not use a single fixed date like "1 August" every year. Instead, age is reckoned against the course commencement date — the day cadets actually join the Academy — which is roughly a year after the written exam. UPSC conducts two NDA cycles a year (NDA I and NDA II), with courses starting at different times, so each notification prints its own exact "born not earlier than / not later than" window. This calculator's default cutoff date is a placeholder for the NDA II 2026 cycle; you must open the specific UPSC NDA notification PDF for the exam you're targeting and copy the exact reference date and birth-date window from it before trusting a result here.

No Category Age Relaxation

Unlike UPSC's Civil Services Examination or most SSC/banking exams, NDA grants no age relaxation for any reserved category — SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or otherwise. Every candidate, regardless of category, must fall in the same 16.5–19.5 year window. Relaxation at NDA instead shows up elsewhere (in reservation of seats, not in the age criterion itself).

What Disqualifies You

  • A date of birth even one day outside the exact window printed in your specific notification — NDA is famously strict about this, down to the day.
  • Being married — NDA requires unmarried candidates only.
  • Not having passed (or currently appearing in) Class 12 with the subject combination required for your chosen wing (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for the Air Force and Naval wings; a standard Class 12 pass for the Army wing).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to change the cutoff date myself? Because NDA's reference date is course-commencement-specific and shifts between NDA I and NDA II every single cycle — there's no single fixed date this tool can safely hard-code for you across cycles the way it can for, say, SSC CGL's "1 August."

Is 16.5 to 19.5 years fixed forever? It has been the standard for a long time, but always confirm against the live notification since UPSC could in principle revise it.

Does NCC or a Commercial Pilot Licence extend the age limit for NDA? No — those provisions apply to some other defence exams (like AFCAT), not to NDA's core age criterion.

Is this the official UPSC eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate. Always cross-check your exact date of birth against the "born not earlier than / not later than" clause in your specific NDA notification at upsc.gov.in before applying.

Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
