The RRB Group D Age Band
RRB Group D (Level 1) covers posts like Track Maintainer, Helper/Assistant in various technical departments, Pointsman, and Level 1 posts across Indian Railways. The current cycle's age band is 18 to 33 years. As with every exam in this family, the upper bound is exclusive: a candidate who turns exactly 33 on the cutoff date has already crossed the limit, and the oldest eligible candidate is one day short of their 33rd birthday.
Category-wise Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation on upper age |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | +0 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | +3 years |
| SC / ST | +5 years |
| PwBD (all categories) | +10 years |
A Note on the Previous Cycle's One-Time Relaxation
The prior RRB Group D cycle (CEN 08/2024) carried a one-time +3 year age relaxation linked to pandemic-era disruptions, effectively widening the General category band to 18–36 for that cycle only. The CEN 09/2025 cycle encoded in this calculator reverts to the standard 18–33 band with no such one-time addition. Always check whether the specific CEN you're applying under carries any special one-time provision — these are announced per-cycle and are not guaranteed to repeat or to be absent in future cycles.
What Disqualifies You
- Being younger than 18, or having already turned 33 (or your relaxed upper limit), as on the cutoff date.
- Not holding the minimum educational qualification (10th pass, or ITI/equivalent, depending on the specific post) — this calculator checks age only.
- Not meeting the post's separate physical efficiency test (PET) standards, which vary by post category (Track Maintainer roles in particular have demanding PET requirements).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is RRB Group D the same as RRB NTPC? No — NTPC splits into Undergraduate and Graduate levels with higher, education-linked age bands. Group D is a single Level 1 band (18–33) with a lower minimum educational requirement. Use the dedicated RRB NTPC calculator on this site for those posts.
Does the relaxation apply to the minimum age too? No — only the upper age limit is relaxed; every candidate, regardless of category, must be at least 18.
Will the next Group D cycle also use 18–33? Likely, based on the CEN 09/2025 figures encoded here, but RRB has varied this in the past (including one-time relaxations) — always re-check the live CEN before applying to a future cycle.
Is this the official Railway Recruitment Board eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate built from the CEN 09/2025 notification. Always cross-check your exact date of birth and category against the live CEN at rrbapply.gov.in.
Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
