How to Use the SSC CGL Age Eligibility Calculator
- Enter your date of birth.
- Confirm or edit the cutoff date — SSC CGL reckons age "as on 1 August" of the exam year, pre-filled for the 2026 cycle.
- Select the post/level that matches the age band printed against your target post in the notification's vacancy table.
- Choose your category and click Check eligibility.
Everything runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
SSC CGL Doesn't Have One Age Limit — It Has Four
Unlike many exams, SSC CGL is a single written exam that feeds dozens of different posts across ministries, each carrying its own age band. The four bands that cover almost every CGL post are:
| Band | Example posts |
|---|---|
| 18–27 years | Assistant Section Officer, Tax Assistant, Auditor, Divisional Accountant |
| 20–30 years | Sub-Inspector (CBI), Inspector (Central Excise/GST/Preventive Officer) |
| 18–30 years | Statistical Investigator Grade II |
| 18–32 years | Junior Statistical Officer |
Always check the exact age column against the specific post code you're applying for in the current notification's vacancy annexure — this calculator's four bands cover the vast majority of posts, but a small number of posts can carry their own department-specific variant.
Category-wise Relaxation
The standard SSC relaxation table applies uniformly across all four bands:
| Category | Relaxation on upper age |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | +0 |
| OBC-NCL | +3 years |
| SC / ST | +5 years |
| PwBD (General/EWS) | +10 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | +13 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | +15 years |
Ex-servicemen get a separate relaxation (actual age minus length of military service, plus 3 years) that depends on your individual service record and isn't a flat number this calculator can compute — check the notification's Ex-Servicemen clause directly if that applies to you.
The 1 August Cutoff, and the Exclusive Upper Bound
SSC's own notification phrases this precisely: for the 18–27 band as on 1 August 2026, a candidate must be "born not earlier than 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008." That "not earlier than 2 August" (not 1 August) means someone who turns exactly 27 on the cutoff date has already crossed the limit — the oldest eligible candidate is one day short of their 27th birthday. This calculator implements that exact boundary, not a rough "27 or younger" approximation.
What Disqualifies You
- Falling outside your post's specific age band as on 1 August of the exam year, even by a single day on the upper end.
- Selecting the wrong post-level band — always cross-check the age column against your target post code, not just the exam's overall headline range.
- Claiming a category relaxation without the matching, currently-valid certificate (OBC-NCL certificates in particular have a validity/renewal requirement).
Frequently Asked Questions
Which band should I pick if I'm not sure which post I want? Check the post preference and vacancy annexure in the current CGL notification — the age column is listed post-by-post, not just as one number.
Does the relaxation apply to the minimum age too? No — only the upper age limit is relaxed; the minimum age (18 or 20, depending on the post) is fixed for everyone.
Is this the official SSC eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate built from the SSC CGL 2026 notification. Always cross-check your exact date of birth, post code, and category against the notification PDF at ssc.gov.in.
Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
