How to Use the SSC CHSL Age Eligibility Calculator
- Enter your date of birth.
- Confirm or edit the cutoff date — SSC CHSL reckons age "as on 1 January" of the year after the notification year, pre-filled against the most recently completed cycle.

- Click Check eligibility to see your exact age and whether you fall inside the 18–27 year band.
Everything runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
The SSC CHSL Age Band
SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) recruits for posts like Lower Divisional Clerk, Junior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, and Data Entry Operator. Across all these posts, the age band is a uniform 18 to 27 years. As with every exam in this family, the upper bound is exclusive: a candidate who turns exactly 27 on the cutoff date has already crossed the limit, and the oldest eligible candidate is one day short of their 27th birthday.
The Unusual Cutoff-Date Convention
Most SSC exams (CGL, MTS, Steno) reckon age "as on 1 August" of the exam year itself. CHSL is the exception: it reckons age as on 1 January of the year after the notification is released — so a "CHSL 2025" notification (released mid-2025) actually calculates age as on 1 January 2026. This calculator's default cutoff date reflects that convention for the most recently completed cycle; always re-check the exact date printed in whichever year's notification you're applying against.
Category-wise Relaxation
The standard SSC relaxation table applies:
| Category | Relaxation on upper age |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | +0 |
| OBC-NCL | +3 years |
| SC / ST | +5 years |
| PwBD (General/EWS) | +10 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | +13 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | +15 years |
Ex-servicemen get a separate service-linked relaxation (actual age minus length of service, plus 3 years) that this calculator doesn't compute as a flat number — check the notification's Ex-Servicemen clause directly if that applies to you.
What Disqualifies You
- Falling outside 18–27 (or your category's relaxed upper limit) as on the CHSL-specific cutoff date, even by a single day.
- Not having passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board — SSC CHSL's minimum qualification requirement is separate from, and in addition to, the age criterion.
- Claiming a category relaxation without a currently-valid caste/disability certificate in SSC's prescribed format.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does SSC CHSL use 1 January instead of 1 August like SSC CGL? It's simply how SSC has structured the CHSL cycle for years — a different post family (10+2 level) with its own notification timeline and reckoning convention.
Does the relaxation apply to the minimum age too? No — only the upper age limit is relaxed; every candidate, regardless of category, must be at least 18.
Has the SSC CHSL 2026 notification been released yet? As of this tool's last verification (August 2026), the SSC CHSL 2026 notification's exact cutoff date had not been confirmed — this calculator uses the most recently completed (2025) cycle's figures, clearly dated, until the newer notification is out.
Is this the official SSC eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate. Always cross-check your exact date of birth and category against the notification PDF at ssc.gov.in.
Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
