SSC Stenographer Age Eligibility Calculator

Check your age against SSC Stenographer Grade C (18-30) and Grade D (18-27) bands, with OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwBD relaxations. Sourced against the SSC Steno 2025 notification.

Age limits verified 2026-08 against SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' 2025 Notification, ssc.gov.in — always confirm against the current-year official notification before applying. This encodes the most recently completed SSC Stenographer cycle (2025). The 18-30 (Grade C) / 18-27 (Grade D) bands and 1 August cutoff-date convention have been stable for several cycles, but re-confirm both once the current-year notification is out.

How to Use the SSC Stenographer Age Eligibility Calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Confirm or edit the cutoff date — SSC Stenographer reckons age "as on 1 August" of the exam year, pre-filled against the 2025 cycle.
  3. Select the grade you're applying for: Grade 'C' or Grade 'D'.
  4. Choose your category and click Check eligibility.

Two Grades, Two Different Age Bands

SSC's Stenographer exam recruits for two distinct grades with different age bands:

GradeAge bandLevel
Stenographer Grade 'C'18–30 yearsGroup B
Stenographer Grade 'D'18–27 yearsGroup C

As with every exam in this family, the upper bound is exclusive: a candidate who turns exactly 30 (Grade C) or 27 (Grade D) on the cutoff date has already crossed that grade's limit, and the oldest eligible candidate is one day short of their birthday.

Category-wise Relaxation

The standard SSC relaxation table applies to both grades:

CategoryRelaxation on upper age
General / EWS+0
OBC-NCL+3 years
SC / ST+5 years
PwBD (General/EWS)+10 years
PwBD (OBC-NCL)+13 years
PwBD (SC/ST)+15 years

Ex-servicemen get a separate service-linked relaxation that this calculator doesn't compute as a flat number — check the notification's Ex-Servicemen clause directly if that applies to you.

Grade C vs Grade D — Why It Matters

Grade 'C' is the higher-level stenographer role (Group B, non-gazetted) with a wider 18–30 age band, while Grade 'D' is a Group C post with a narrower 18–27 band. Both require passing Class 12 plus a shorthand/typing skill test, but the age eligibility differs meaningfully — always confirm which grade you're applying for before reading your result, since selecting the wrong one in the dropdown will check you against the wrong band.

What Disqualifies You

  • Falling outside your selected grade's age band (or your relaxed upper limit) as on the cutoff date, even by a single day.
  • Not clearing the mandatory shorthand and transcription skill test at the speed/accuracy prescribed for your grade — this calculator checks age only.
  • Claiming a category relaxation without a currently-valid caste/disability certificate in SSC's prescribed format.

Is this the official SSC eligibility checker? No. This is an independent, browser-only estimate. Always cross-check your exact date of birth, grade, and category against the notification PDF at ssc.gov.in.

Is my data stored anywhere? No. The check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is transmitted to a server.
